Trapper | Modeste Eddibar, a trapper from Colville Lake, NWT, cleans a wolf pelt outside of his home. Trapping is done in the NWT as a source of food and income in places where there is no other economy and living costs are extremely high. Last night, I attended the screening of a new docu-reality series called Fur Harvesters NWT which is showing on WildTV. It follows Hay River trapper, Andrew Stanley, through an entire trapping season and you quickly learn how much work and respect goes into trapping animals just to put some food on the table and scrape together a few bucks. It’s an extremely tough life. The show, created and produced by my friends at Artless Collective, can be seen on WildTV or on Vimeo On Demand.

Elizabeth | This is a portrait of Elizabeth Chocolate, an elder from the Tlicho Nation in Canada’s Northwest Territories. This was not her first time in front of a camera however: in 1984 she was photographed by National Geographic’s David Alan Harvey for a story about Canada’s North.

Polar Bear Legs | Polar bear legs on a komatik. Took this photo when I was in Resolute Bay, Nunavut, returning from the Eureka weather station on Ellesmere Island. Was walking around town and came upon this hunter’s komatik (sled).
